DIY website owner wondering why their website is not showing on Google search
A very common DIY website moment: your site is live, but Google still hasn’t caught up yet.

Why Can’t I Find My Website on Google If My Site Is Published?

Someone launches their website. The pages are finished. The photos are added. The site is published.

Then they open Google and search for it. And nothing shows up.

The first thought is usually:

“Something must be broken.”

Most of the time, it isn’t. This is one of the most common questions people ask after launching a DIY website.

Why Your Website Might Not Be Showing on Google Yet

When you publish a website, it becomes live on the internet. But that doesn’t automatically mean it will appear in Google search results right away.

Google has to discover the website first.

Most websites appear in search after they are connected to Google's indexing system. If that connection hasn't been made yet, Google simply doesn’t know the website exists.

This is why many new websites are not showing on Google search yet, even though they are fully published.

What I Check First When Someone Says Their Website Isn't Showing on Google

When someone asks why their website isn’t appearing in Google search, I usually start with a few simple checks.

  • Is the website connected to Google Search Console?

  • Has the site been submitted for indexing?

  • Are the pages allowed to appear in search results?

  • Do the pages have titles and descriptions?

Most of the time, one of these small settings just hasn’t been turned on yet.

Once those connections are in place, Google can begin discovering the website pages.

A Finished Website and a Searchable Website Are Two Different Things

This is the part that surprises people. A website can be completely finished and still not appear in Google search results yet.

It doesn’t mean the website was built incorrectly. It usually just means the website hasn’t been fully connected to Google's indexing system. Once Google discovers the pages, they can begin appearing in search results.

A Quiet Reminder

Many website problems turn out not to be big problems. They’re often just small settings that were missed. And those are usually the easiest things to fix once you know where to look.

If you're wondering why you can't find your website on Google, it usually comes down to one small step that was missed.

Do I actually need to rebuild my website?

When a website begins feeling confusing or unfinished, it’s easy to assume the solution is starting over. But most websites don’t actually need to be rebuilt.
