Why Does Canva Take So Long? Here’s The 1 Thing You Might Be Doing Wrong

Updated: 4 days ago

A question I hear all the time: Why does it take me an hour (or more) to make one social media post in Canva? Isn’t it supposed to be quick?

I get it. Canva sounds like an easy solution, but if you’ve ever spent 20+ minutes scrolling for the “perfect” template, only to realize your text doesn’t fit, you know the struggle. You either end up frustrated, closing your laptop in defeat, or posting something that doesn’t look right—just to meet a deadline.

I’ve been there too. At first, I picked templates based on what I liked instead of what I needed. That’s when I fell down the Canva rabbit hole.

Here’s how I stopped wasting time and made Canva work for me:

  1. Pick a template that fits your brand. Is your style minimal, playful, classic? Narrowing your search to a specific aesthetic cuts out the endless scrolling.

  2. Choose based on content. Are you working with mostly text, photos, videos, or a mix? Find a template designed for your content type—it’ll save you the headache of endless adjustments.

  3. Plug in your content first. Once you’ve got your text and images in place, then tweak the fonts and colors to match your brand.

This small shift changed everything for me. Now, instead of spending an hour battling Canva, I get in, get it done, and move on. Give this Canva time-saving tip a try next time—your sanity will thank you!
